Cybersecurity for notary offices — protect authentic acts

Authentic acts and client data flow through Outlook, Teams and the notarial network every day. Engarde catches the behaviors that cause notary incidents — at the exact moment they happen.

What notary offices keep telling us

Four situations come back in almost every conversation with a notary or notary-office IT lead.

Highly sensitive authentic acts and client data

Real-estate transactions, successions, marriage contracts: a leaked authentic act exposes a strategic case and triggers notarial liability. A single 'anyone with the link' share on Drive or one wrong recipient is enough.

Wire fraud during a closing

Fake emails impersonating Banque de France, DGFIP, a ministry or counsel circulate at the exact moment of a signing. A few minutes of inattention under pressure and the funds land on a fraudulent IBAN.

CSN and ANSSI obligations vague on execution

Conseil supérieur du notariat and ANSSI guidance set the expectations but leave the office on its own for operational execution. Hard to prove to the CNIL, within the 72-hour breach window, that behavioral controls were actually in place.

No full-time security person

Most offices of 5 to 100 staff have no CISO. Security falls on whichever partner is most comfortable with IT, on top of their full-time job: being a notary.

Why Engarde fits a notary office

Engarde deploys inside the tools your office already uses — Microsoft 365, Outlook, Teams, Drive — and lives where risky behaviors actually happen. An unintended public share of an act, a suspicious wire-transfer request during a closing, an OAuth granted to a personal Gmail, a missing MFA on a partner's account: each signal triggers an in-context nudge sent to the right person, the moment risk appears, not three months later inside an e-learning module. The exportable behavioral evidence aligns with notarial secret professionnel, RGPD Article 32 and CSN expectations.

Offices facing the same regulatory pressure often pair this page with cybersecurity for law firms, cybersecurity for chartered accounting firms, and personal data protection on the GDPR side. On the product side, see how Engarde combines in-context coaching in Slack and Teams, industry-specific phishing simulations, and SaaS-behavior monitoring. Frequently asked questions

Does Engarde integrate with the Real notarial network / notary-specific tools? +

Engarde deploys first where risky behaviors happen: Microsoft 365, Outlook, Teams and the Drive spaces your office shares. We do not currently claim a native integration with the Real or RealCloud notarial network — the immediate value comes from the office and collaboration layer, which is precisely where acts leak, where closing-time phishing lands and where risky OAuth grants are made. If you have a specific integration need on the notarial network side, raise it during early access.

How does it help against wire fraud at closing? +

Engarde combines three levers. First, industry-specific phishing simulations replicating the scenarios that target notary offices: fake Banque de France, fake DGFIP, fake counsel requesting a last-minute IBAN change. Second, in-context nudges in Outlook and Teams that trigger the moment a risky behavior is detected — click on a suspicious domain, transfer to an unknown external recipient, recently granted OAuth. Third, spaced-repetition quizzes that lock in the right reflexes (callback on a known number before any transfer) for the staff actually exposed.

What evidence does Engarde provide for the CNIL in case of an incident? +

The history of triggered nudges, detected risky behaviors, simulations sent and corrective actions taken is exportable. This gives your DPO the trail of 'appropriate technical and organizational measures' required by GDPR Article 32, to provide during a 72-hour breach notification. This is behavioral evidence, not a course-completion certificate: that is exactly what authorities now look at.

Is Engarde compatible with notarial secret professionnel? +

Yes. Engarde does not need to read the content of authentic acts or confidential emails to do its job: the platform analyzes behavioral signals (share configuration, external recipient, granted OAuth, MFA state, staff reporting) and triggers nudges addressed to the right person. The logic is compatible with notarial secret professionnel: we protect the behavior around the act, not the act itself.

Is this the same Engarde as another cybersecurity vendor with this name? +

No. Engarde (engarde.cc) is a French behavior-centered cybersecurity platform built for organizations without a full-time CISO — notary offices, law firms, chartered accounting firms, SaaS scale-ups. Distinct from other vendors sharing the Engarde name.
